Died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Hooper Care Center

Fred was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Fred A. and Bernice 'Nelson' Fachman. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He purchased the Hooper Inn with his father in 1953 and ran that until 1992. While operating the Hooper Inn, Fred also worked in Fremont with the U.S. Postal Service from 1978 until retiring in 1992. Fred was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, American Legion Post 18, and the VFW Post 10535, all in Hooper. During his working years, he was also a member of the Hooper Commercial Club.

Fred married Heidi Hasenau on December 29, 1962, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Fred loved music, he enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, and loved to tell jokes.

Melanie (Walter) Weinholtz of Germany
Several Nieces and Nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marie Brown, James Fachman, Mary Ann Smith
and Renal Fachman.

The Memorial Mass will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper. Military Honors will be conducted at the church following the mass. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the family to be directed to charities of their choice.
