Clarence W. Hartmann was born February 11, 1925, on a farm southwest of Hooper to William F. and Anna (Lahn) Hartmann. He attended rural school in Dodge County and graduated from Hooper High School in 1942. He served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Corps of Engineers from May 1945 to November 1946. Hartmann was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant after serving with the Army of Occupation in Japan.

Clarence married Lois Jean Moseman on June 12, 1949, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (rural Hooper). They farmed and fed cattle for over 50 years. He was involved with several auction sales and drove a school bus for Logan View High School for 27 years.

He was a lifetime member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper serving on the Church Council, several committees and ushering. Clarence was chairman of the annual men's waffle supper for over 40 years. He was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post #18 of Hooper also serving on the Veteran's Honor Guard. He was a life member and past Commander of VFW Post 7616, now Post 10535 in Hooper. Clarence was a life member and Chef Passé of Voiture 1018 40 & 8 serving as Nurses' Training Directeur for many years. He also held life memberships in the Cornhusker Chapter of the 82nd Airborne and FFA Alumni.

Other activities include long time memberships on the Dodge County Fair Board, a 50-year membership in Hooper Commercial Club, Dodge County ASCS Committee, rural school board, Hooper Saddle Club, 4-H leaderships, and Thrivent board. He was very active in the Dodge County Cattlemen, Nebraska Cattlemen, and National Cattlemen's Beef Association, again holding several offices and directorships. Clarence and Lois Jean helped organize the Nebraska Cattlemen's Beef Pit at the Nebraska State Fair.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Lois Jean, two sons, Glenn of Garland, and Lee of Bangkok, Thailand, two daughters, Kay Ann of Fremont, and Darla (and special friend Kevin Sullivan) of Hooper, one brother, Lloyd (and wife Bonnie) of Hooper, granddaughter, Angela Casselberry, and great-grandchildren, Brooke Arey, Rebecca, Cody, and Alex, and grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Sullivan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joni Rae, and a brother, Donald Hartmann.

The funeral will be 11:00am Wednesday (November 14) at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Hooper American Legion Post 18 and VFW Post 10535. Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church and the 40 & 8 Nurses Training. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.
