Richard "Dick" D. Curley

Richard D. "Dick" Curley, 87, of Fremont, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, in Fremont. He was born October 13, 1929, in Omaha and grew up in Craig, Nebraska. His parents were Howard G. and Edith O. (Eriksen) Curley. He married Edith L. Valder on September 30, 1951, in Tekamah, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2017.
Dick was a pilot in the U.S. Army from 1951-1954 and served 14 months in Korea, receiving many awards and commendations for meritorious service. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Nebraska. During his career as a certified professional agronomist, Dick and Edie moved to many areas of the country, settling in Fremont in the early 1990's. In almost 66 years of marriage, they moved more than 20 times.
Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and Past Master of Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15 A.F & A.M., Omaha Scottish Rite, Tangier Shrine Center, Past President of Fremont Shriners Club, Sojourners Heroes of '76-Joseph Warren Camp Chapter 19 of Omaha, and Eastern Star Chapter 216 of Herman, Nebraska.
He is survived by his children, Steven Curley, Christine (Kevin) Finson, Bradley (Glenda) Curley; grandchildren Erin Curley, Sean Curley, Tyler Curley, Carrie Finson, Megan (Matthew) Buse, Lauren (Matthew) Elwood, and Emma Curley; great-grandchildren Gabriella, Ivy and Savannah Buse; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert Curley and Lyle Curley.
The funeral service will be Friday, July 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont with Reverends Bill and Melissa Gepford officiating. Following a lunch, the committal will be in the Craig Cemetery with military honors by the Fremont Honor Guard (American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854). Memorials are suggested to the Stained Glass Window Fund at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, July 20, 3:00-8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 p.m.
