Maralee Anna (Janssen) Schwab was born October 21, 1921 in Hooper, Nebraska to John H. and Wilhelmina H. (Thedens) Janssen. She was the youngest of five children to include her siblings Elletha, LeRoy, Marlyn, and Gerald. She graduated from Hooper High School in 1938. Maralee attended Midland Lutheran College to advance her secretarial skills. She then took a job at the Mead Ordinance Plant during World War II where she worked in the medical office.

Maralee married Donald K. Schwab on September 18, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper upon his return from serving in the United States Army. To this union was born Susan (David) Bohling of Heber City, Utah; Ann (Galen) McClusky of Drexel, Missouri; Dr. Terry (Kim) Schwab of Fort Scott, Kansas, Dr. Mary Ellen (John) Beshaler of Arnold, Nebraska; and Dr. Robert (Robin) Schwab of Cedar Creek, Nebraska. Her sixteen grandchildren include Katelyn (Jarod) Owens, Sarah Bohling, Anna Bohling, Matthew (Melissa) McClusky, Sean (Amanda) McClusky, Kacie McClusky, Adam McClusky, Zachary (Hannah) Schwab, Ethan (Bethany) Schwab, Savannah (Zadok) Self, Abbey Schwab, Dr. Alicia (Marc) Ericksen, Ashley (Klint) Andreas, Evan (Kellsy) Beshaler, Dr. Lyndsay (Boyd) Viers, and Drew Schwab.

When her children were of school age, Maralee began working part-time at the Farmers Union Cooperative in Hooper. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was also an active Willing Worker and a member of the church choir. She will best be remembered for her baking and sewing skills, and the way she cared for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, her sixteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, her infant daughter Julie, and her infant grandson Nathan McClusky.

Services for Maralee will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel on Friday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before the service at the church in Hooper.
