Denis "Denny" L. Walter

Denis L. 'Denny' Walter age 88, of Fremont Died Wednesday December 13, 2017 at his home.
Denis was born June 27th, 1929 in West Point, NE. to Ignatius "IJ" and Theresa (Heimann) Walter. He attended grade school and graduated from Snyder High School in 1947. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. His confirmation verse is "Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ" Philippians 1:2.
After high school Denis worked side by side with his dad IJ Walter doing various construction jobs. Later in life he was fortunate to work side by side with his son Timothy remodeling homes.
In 1950 he started employment at Hormel where he spent 34 ½ years before retiring in 1984. Denis was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He was stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky and later was stationed at Stuttgart and Frankfurt, Germany. In 1953 he was transferred to the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged in 1957. After retiring from Hormel he drove a special needs bus for the Fremont Public Schools for 13 years. He was also a currier for First National Bank, Fremont (formerly Fremont National Bank).
Denis married Arlene Klintworth at Trinity Lutheran Church April 10, 1954 by Pastor Victor Hoffman. In 1959 they welcomed home a son Timothy Denis Walter.
Denis was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Denis is survived by his wife Arlene, son Timothy, granddaughter Ashley (Jack) Sherwood and great grandson Ignatius "IJ" Sherwood all of Fremont. He is also survived by a sister Geri (Bob) McIlheran of Oro Valley, AZ., many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Tater Muffin.
The funeral will be Saturday, 10am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dan Heuer will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday from 2pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and School or the Nebraska Dachshund Rescue.
