Alice was born on October 6, 1916 to William and Anna 'Haye' Heller near Hooper, Nebraska. The Lord called her home to eternal rest on December 14, 2011 at the Scribner Good Samaritan Center. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hooper, graduated from Hooper High School with the class of 1933, and attended Wayne State Teachers College. On June 15, 1939 she married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Havekost. They settled on the farm north of Hooper that would be their home for over 50 years. In 1970 Alice received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University). She resumed her teaching career in several area rural schools, and retired as the Uehling Elementary School Principal.

Preceding her in death are her parents William and Anna, husband Leonard, brother Raymond Heller, sisters Marie (Heller) Paul and Beth Lucille Heller who died in infancy; son Joel, and granddaughter Meg Havekost. Left to mourn her passing are: Karen (Ron) Licht of Lincoln; Gail (David) Gardner of Palo Alto, CA.; Miles (Crystal) Havekost of Omaha; daughter-in-law Candace Havekost of Marietta, GA.; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Alice was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Fremont Alliance Church.

The Memorial Service will be 2pm Wednesday December 21 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. There is no visitation. Memorial gifts in Alice's memory may be directed to the Scribner Good Samaritan Center or Odyssey Hospice.
