Deborah Kay Clausen
February 5, 1949 - October 1, 2020
Deborah Kay (Maas) Clausen, 71, entered her eternal home on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She was born February 5, 1949, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Herman and Kathryn (Lange) Maas. She became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on March 20, 1949. She later confirmed her faith on April 7, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Scribner, NE. Following her graduation from Scribner High School in 1967, she attended the Airline Personnel Training Institute in Omaha, NE. That education provided her the opportunity for a career in Customer Service with United Airlines in Chicago, IL that would span over the next 40 years and ending in retirement in Omaha, NE. She lived in many locations as a result of company transfers.
It was her transfer to Honolulu, HI where she met her first love, Franz, from Austria. They were united in Holy Matrimony on February 21, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Scribner, NE. Their union was blessed with the gift of three children, Jamis born in Honolulu, HI, Jason born in Pittsburgh, PA and Jerome (Jeromy) born in Cleveland, OH. In 1978 she was granted a transfer to Lincoln, NE so that the children could grow up near extended family. In 1982, the marriage came to an end.
After meeting Leslie F. Clausen at their church they were married on January 28, 1988. His daughter Tracy, age 11, completed their blended family. They were married for 26 years. Her career with United Airlines afforded the family many years of world-wide and adventuresome travels. When they weren't jet-setting they took to the road and enjoyed many adventures camping and boating around the USA. When she wasn't traveling she enjoyed her role as Miss Betty Crocker, being home raising her family, gardening, canning, cooking and baking.
Deb is survived by her children Jason Stiastny of Lincoln, Jeromy Stiastny of Omaha and Tracy (Curtis) Combs of Lincoln; and two grandchildren, Kallen Nissen (Ambrosia Keefe) of Lincoln and Ceilee Hartman of Gretna, NE; sisters Mary (Al) Sorensen of Madison, NE; Peggy (Dale) Storm of Davey, NE; Marla (Russ) Gubbels of Randolph, NE; brothers Robert (Deb) Maas of Fremont, NE; Dave Coates of Cedar City, UT; Gary (Karen) Coates of Highlands Ranch, CO; Kevin (Renee) Coates of Fremont, NE; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Deb was preceded in death by her infant son Jamis Johann Stiastny; parents and parents-in-law; and 2 year old niece Lori Maas.
Her earthly remains will be laid to rest at the Scribner Cemetery where they await the resurrection of all flesh. Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep!
Our family would like to thank you for joining us in this service of remembrance celebrating God's gift of Deb's life-a life well lived. Our prayer is that you, too, are inspired to run well and finish the race marked for our life, just as we are inspired by Deb's faithfulness to the very end. We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us. To God be the glory!
The funeral will be 10:30am, Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church (15005 & Q St.) in Omaha, masks are REQUIRED. If you are unable to attend you can view the service (live stream) at dsomaha.org Visitation with the family, 5:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, Ne.
Please join the family for lunch in the fellowship hall following this service. You are also invited to attend the burial service at 2:00 p.m. at the Scribner Cemetery, Scribner, NE.
