Bernard Dale Bennett was born November 20,1930 at home in Fremont to Margarete 'Linn' and Bernard Bennett. He lived his entire life in Fremont. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1948 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He then attended Midland College for a year. His working career began when he was in Jr. High School at the Coca Cola bottling works, sorting bottles to prepare for bottling. He worked there until he was 19, the last several months as head bottler. In September of 1949 he started employment with the George A. Hormel Packing plant, first as a butcher in the hog kill department. He then entered an apprentice program and became a mechanic in the Spam division. After a few years he reentered the apprenticeship program and became an electrician/electronics repairman. During his Hormel years he sold and repaired TV's and radios, and installed TV antennas out of his home.

While working at Hormel he met Ramona Fusselman. They married on February 3, 1952. The family continued to live in Fremont, building their home in 1958. The couple enjoyed fishing, spending many summers on Rush Lake in Minnesota. They loved to travel, buying a fifth wheel and traveling from Alaska to Newfoundland, over most of the U.S. and Canada. Dale was also an avid wood worker.
