Wendell R. Wagner, age 84, of Fremont Died Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at his home.
Wendell was born June 5, 1941 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Wilbur and Mavis (Kronkright) Wagner. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Fremont County Wyoming and attended elementary and high school in Shoshoni Wyoming, graduating in 1959. He attended Casper Junior College in Casper Wyoming for two years and then completed his education at the University of Wyoming where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Education. He was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity and a member of Alpha Zeta, honorary agriculture fraternity. Wendell enjoyed playing piano and accordion at many festivities on campus. He met his wife, Cathy (Federer) at the University and they were married shortly after his graduation on June 8, 1963. His first job was with The Great Western Sugar Company and he spent the next 32 years working as an agriculturalist in the sugar beet industry in Colorado and western Nebraska. Wendell enjoyed caring for a small herd of cattle and the herd eventually grew to 94 head when he sold it in 2000. Cathy & Wendell spent time working on a ranch in the Nebraska sandhills where he enjoyed caring for his cattle full time. In 1999 they moved to Fremont, Nebraska and Cathy was employed by the Nebraska Order of the Eastern Star. Wendell enjoyed traveling the state with her as much as he could and he also worked for 10 years at Kriz Davis, an electrical supply company. During his time in Fremont, he enjoyed summer and Christmas visits from his children and three grandchildren and this continued into his retirement. He also enjoyed growing a vegetable garden each year and caring for his lawn and flowers. During his retirement he was a regular at the local coffee shop and loved visiting with anyone who had the time. He and Cathy enjoyed some travel experiences, many of which included the children and grandchildren. Wendell is survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Randy of Irving, Texas and Wray, Colorado; daughter Wendy Wagner and three grandchildren, Parker, Anton, and Keira Benes of Washington, DC; his sister Kathleen Irvin (Terry) and nephews Michael (Liz) and Jay (Mandy) Irvin of Riverton, Wyoming; and sister-in-law Betsy Wagner of Evanston, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Everett, and brother Tom.
A Celebration of Life Service and Eastern Star Service will be 2pm, Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Reception to follow service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Wendell's honor may be made to the Nebraska Eastern Star Cancer Fund or the donor's choice.
