Ethel Smith

Ethel was born June 12, 1909 in Washington County, in the Spiker area, to Henry and Frieda Meierhenry. She grew up there and graduated from high school in Arlington.
On October 30, 1932, Ethel Meierhenry was married to Clinton Smith. They farmed in Washington County over 50 years near Herman, Nebraska. Clinton passed away in August of 1986. Later, Ethel moved to Fremont and lived in the Deerfield Apartments, then Nye Square and Nye Court, before moving into the Hooper Care Center in 2002.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. And she was a member of the Red Hat Ladies of the Hooper Care Center. She had been a member of her former rural neighborhood Jolly Worker's Club, and Church Women #2 of the Herman Methodist Church.
Ethel was preceded in death, in addition to her husband Clinton, by her son Ronald G. Smith (March of 2007), a sister Hattie Molbig, and an infant sister, and brother Walter Meierhenry.
Survivors: daughter-in-law - Judith Smith Hilgenkamp and husband Robert Hilgenkamp of Fremont 2 grandsons - Todd and wife Shari Smith of Herman and their children Katelyn and Ryan Brent and wife Becky Smith of McCallsburg, Iowa and their children Shelby and Nolan 2 granddaughters - Megan Smith of Hooper Amber Smith of Fremont 2 nephews - Vern and wife Mary Smith of Colorado Springs, CO. Richard and wife Carole Meierhenry of Phoenix, Ariz.
The funeral service will 10:30 AM Thursday (Febr. 10th) in the First United Methodist Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating. The committal will be in the Herman Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to her church.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, on Wednesday (Febr. 9th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM. Visitation will also be at the church Thursday morning for an hour before the service.
