Irma L. Kolm

Irma L. Kolm (nee Briese), of Fremont, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Nye Legacy nursing home in Fremont. Irma was born April 18, 1920 in Boone, Nebraska to William P. and Emma (Schroeder) Briese. She grew up in Boone and graduated from Albion High School in 1938.
On July 1, 1942 she married Gerald (Jerry) Kolm, also of Boone. When Jerry was discharged from the Army in 1945, he and Irma began farming in Boone. For the next 20 years, Irma was an active farm wife, participating in all the work of the farm as well as keeping house and raising two sons. When they moved into Fremont in 1965, Irma began an 18-year career with the Midland College library, where she was responsible for library records and organization, and supervising student assistants. She retired in 1982.
Irma was active in many church activities, especially making quilts for people in need and providing meals for funerals at the church. Irma loved her garden and its flowers. She was a life-long fan of University of Nebraska football.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. She is survived by her husband Gerald of Fremont, her sons Paul and wife Amy of McDonough, Georgia; David and his wife Marianne Anderson of Alexandria, Virginia; two grandsons, Jeffrey and wife Penny of McDonough, Georgia, and Jonathan of Alexandria, Virginia; two step-granddaughters, Susan Anderson, and husband Matt, and Janice Anderson; 5 great grandchildren; two (younger) brothers, Donald and wife Mary of Albion, Nebraska and Irvin and wife Marion of Lincoln, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Margaret Briese of Albion, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Jerry will be at the mortuary from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The other family members will be present from 1pm to 7:30pm. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7 at Peace Lutheran Church, 2102 North County Road 26, with Pastor Gib Botten officiating. Interment will be at Fremont Memorial Cemetery.
