Arnold Gebers

Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Born June 5, 1936. Entered into eternal life with Christ on Friday December 31, 2010. Arnie is survived by his wife, Donnetta and his children Layne (Judy) Gebers of Clarksville, TN and Shelly (Randy) Kaup of Gretna, three step-daughters, Dyann (Jeff) Bradbury of Lincoln, Lisa (Francis) Langhorst and Mary Scholl, all of North Bend. Ten grandchildren: Nikki, Dustin (Chrissy) and Jenessa Gebers, Jeremiah Shafer, Cody, Stephanie and Joshua Kaup, Kyle Langhorst, Ian Bradbury and Justin Scholl. Brothers: Edmund and Erwin and Sisters: Lenora Fellers and Leota Lenning. He is preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Adina (Oestmann) Gebers, brother Alvin and sister Luetta Kuhlmann. Brother-in-Laws: Larry Lenning, Lloyd Fellers and Erwin Kuhlmann and Sister-in-law Leona Gebers.
Arnie was born and raised on a farm southwest of Auburn, NE and was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He attended Rural School District #27 and graduated from Auburn High School. He owned and operated a Conoco station and later worked in the Insurance industry with Farm Bureau Insurance and also for Investors of Nebraska. For four years, while in Auburn, he owned and operated a restaurant (Wheel 'R Inn). In 1973, he and his family moved to Scribner, NE where he managed the Scribner Insurance Agency. Under his management, the agency expanded and grew to become a leading business on Scribner's Main Street. He retired in 2008. Arnie married Donnetta Scholl in June, 1996. Arnie was active in many community activities: Auburn: Jayees, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. Scribner: City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Councilman for United Evangelical Lutheran Church, President of Elkhorn Valley Golf Course, Scribner Masonic Lodge, long-time member of the Scribner Volunteer Fire and Rescue and served as Civil Defense Director. He was also a member of the Hooper Investment Club, and was on the Board of Directors for Scribner Bank. His love was the Dodge County Fair where he served as the treasurer for 28 years and served as Fair Manager for 27 of those years. He was the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Dodge Co. Parade and was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award at the 2010 Chamber Banquet. Arnie leaves behind a legacy that will certainly live on for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Francis Hospice and Home Health Care in West Point, NE or the Dodge County Fair Project that was requested to be completed by Arnie.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 3, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday, January 2, 2011, from 1:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with family from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m, all at United Lutheran Church in Scribner.
