Clarence Kerschinske

He was born June 3, 1927 in Muscatine, Iowa to Julius and Olga (Brendel) Kerschinske. He grew up there, graduating from high school in 1945. Then he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1946.
After his military service he attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1950. He went to work for Hormel's in 1950 in Austin, Minnesota as a salesman, then went briefly to Sioux Falls, SD, before returning to Austin. and came to Fremont with Hormel's in November of 1952. He retired after 37 years in 1987. Most of those years, he was the credit manager. He had been on the board of the Fremont First Central Credit Union for many years.
Clarence was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and it's Lutheran Laymen's League. He had served on several of the committees and held several offices of the church, as well as zone offices of the church. He had been confirmed as an adult in 1952 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. For 18 years, Clarence served with the Boy Scouts in various leadership roles and on various committees. Clarence and his wife Lois have been the recipients of the Boy Scouts 'Award of Merit'. He had also been a coach in Fremont city youth baseball leagues. He was a 50 plus year member of American Legion Post 20 of Fremont and he was an active member of the Golden 'K' Kiwanis Club.
Clarence was married on May 18, 1952 to Lois Onken in Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Olga, twin sister Helen at 3 days of age, a half brother Adolph Klatt and his wife Inajean who were from Muscatine.
Survivors: wife - Lois children - David and wife Patsy Kerschinske of Fremont and their children Andrew and Amber (and her husand Derek) Carruthers. John and wife Denise Kerschinske of Cedar Bluffs and their son Julius. Beth and husband Mike Patterson of Omaha and their children Brett, Kimberly, and Sean. Paul and wife Brigid Kerschinske of Omaha and their children Connor and Claire. James and wife Rebecca Kerschinske of Hartland, Wisc. and children Adam and Matthew sister - Lillian Garvin of Ogallala, Nebraska.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday (Dec. 16, 2010) at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Wednesday (Dec. 15th) from 2 to 8 PM with the family present from 6 to 8 PM.
