Devern G. Muller

February 6, 2010

Devern George "Dee" Muller passed away February 6, 2010 at 3:23 AM at Good Samaritan Home in Scribner, Nebraska. He was 89 years, 4 months and 12 days old at the time of his death.

Dee was born on September 24, 1920 on the family farm east of Scribner, Nebraska to Otto and Freida (Heyden) Muller. Dee graduated from Scribner High School. He served in the Army during WWII from April 1942 to December 1944. He was honorably discharged and returned to Nebraska. During his life he was an auto mechanic, a small business owner and a rural mail carrier. Dee retired from the United States Postal Service with 25 years of service.

Dee married Beth Foster and to this union three children were born: Daniel, Linda and Charlene. Dee and Beth raised their family in Scribner.

Dee was a proud American. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July when he would dress up as "Uncle Sam". He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. Dee and Beth would set lines and fish for hours. When Beth became unable to continue canning the fruits and vegetables they raised, Dee took over the job. He became an excellent cook and master baker. His specialties - pies and cookies!

Dee was a creative visionary. He converted tin cans to tin men, boxes to furniture and put function back to things other people would trash.

Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Beth, and his son, Daniel. He is survived by his daughters, Linda and Charlene and son-in-law, Marty Hingst, Grandchildren: Jennifer (Graham) Perks, Elizabeth (Colin) Jones, Meredith Johnson, Heather (Chris) Bennett, Heidi (Nate) Elznic, Kyle (Kaisha) Hingst, Robin Muller, Penny (Joe) Bachman and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving Dee are three sisters and one brother: Gloria Mae Parr, Bernita Seelmeyer, Rodella Kirby and Merle Muller. Family members preceding Dee in death include his parents, Otto and Freida, one sister, Elvira Schultz and his brothers Darwin, Lowell, Wilbur, Robert and Larry Muller.

A celebration of Dee's life is planned for early summer to allow family and friends to schedule travel.
