He was born January 10, 1915 on a farm west of Fremont, to Peter and Anna (Jensen) Rix. He moved to Howard County with his parents and resided there for 13 years, returning to Fremont in 1935.
Elmer took over the farming operation after his father's death in October 1939 and continued farming until the time of his death.. He served on the Fremont Farmers Union Board of Directors for 36 years and he helped organize the early Swine Confinement operations at North Bend. He raised livestock and was interested in the Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children 4-H livestock programs. He raised seed corn for Rob-See-Co company for 43 years, receiving awards for outstanding productions.

He married Minnie Kusch Steinkuhler, Dec.27, 1971, in Lubbock, Texas.

He was proceeded in death by parents, Peter and Anna Rix and two sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services are 10:00 A.M. Friday. at the First Baptist Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Leland Foreman and the Rev. Walter Hickman officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec 20, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Church or the Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children.
