Gladys E. Popken Miller

Gladys was born January 13, 1919 at Scribner, Nebraska to Albert and Emma 'Schultz' Brandt. She was a 1936 graduate of the Hooper High School. During her school years, she helped her parents with their business, the Hooper Bottling Works.
On June 1, 1936, Gladys was married to Arthur G. Popken, and they first lived near Webster, then west of Scribner , and then to a farm north of Hooper. They lived there until retiring and moving to Fremont in 1972. Her husband Arthur died on June 25, 1977. Then on January 26, 1979, she was married to Carl Miller, and he also preceded her in death on March 26, 1992.
Gladys was very athletic minded, and had coached women's softball teams. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed dancing. She was also interested in crafts, and was making bracelets and necklaces.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fremont, and was formerly a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Hooper.
Survivors: 2 daughters - Anita and husband Delwyn Hasemann of Fremont Donna and husband Tim Mallette of Hooper 1 son - Glen Popken of Hooper 2 step-children - Diane Merryweather of Aplington, Iowa Dennis Miller of Onawa, Iowa 7 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren 5 step-grandchildren 9 step-great grandchildren sister - Bonita Heywood of Hooper sister-in-law - Helen Stuehmer of Fremont brother-in-law - Lorenz Popken of Hooper
Gladys was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, a brother and a sister.
The funeral service will be 1:30 PM Wednesday (Dec. 19th) in the Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. The Committal will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery north of Hooper.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 PM at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont.
