George W. Thompson Jr.

George was born in Kokomo, Indiana July 27, 1920 and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Nicholas Senn High School in Chicago, where was a member of ROTC. He volunteered for the service after graduation George William Thompson, Jr. from high school and served in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. During his time in the service, he wrote a memoir, which is treasured by his family.
He lived 68 years in Jackson, Mississippi; where he made his home after discharge from the Army Air Corps during World War II as Staff Sgt. He subsequently attended Millsaps College in Jackson. MS. Early in his career, he taught drafting at the local Central High School. In his youth, he was interested in fitness and weight lifting. He also wrote a manual on fitness. He was a professional cartographer and draftsman and worked for Sinclair Oil Company and owned his own company providing those same services in Jackson, MS. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of the Masons. He lived in Fremont, Nebraska for the past nine years after the death of his wife.
He was a loving, intellectual gentleman. He was a fine Christian and witnessed for His faith throughout his life. He was, in fact, an expert on world religions and prayer and meditation. He collected a large library of religious books and literature and collected maps. He was a talented artist. While in Fremont, he resided in Merrick Manor and Arbor Manor nursing homes due to complications of Parkinson's. He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, playing chess and singing. He was devoted to his family and loved and respected by all. He is survived by Susan Kruse, his daughter, Julia Elizabeth Thompson, his remaining sister, Gordon Kruse, his son-in-law, grandchildren Reese C. Kruse, Adam G. Kruse, Ashley K. Merriman, Steve Kruse (wife, Sara), Ken Kruse (wife, Kasha), and six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Noah, Chelsea, Christian, and Kensey . His parents, Rodney Etta Werden Thompson and George Wm. Thompson, Sr. , his sister Margaret Thompson Long, his grandchildren, Margaret Nichole Kinder, Rebecca Noel Kruse, David Paul Kruse, and Melissa Hope Kruse and wife, Isabel Moss Thompson (2004) preceded him in death.
Services and burial will be held in Ackerman, Mississippi.
