George R. Bertram
March 7, 1931 - June 21, 2013
George was born March 7, 1931 in Falls City, Nebraska where he spent most of his early years. His parents were Jakob and Clara (Stienbrink) Bertram. He graduated from Falls City High School in 1949, moved to Fremont and went to work for Nebraska Crib & Silo.
On November 5, 1951, George was married to Sylvia Dooley in Lincoln and that same year he enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard. While still living in Fremont, he went to work for John Purkey building houses for a brief time. He moved to Omaha to work for Vickers, then briefly to Council Bluffs, then to Falls City. He came back to Fremont in 1961 and worked for Safeway Mobile Homes before beginning employment with Campbell Soup Co. where he worked for the next 25 ½ years. In 1983, George began driving for North American Van Lines. Following retirement, he drove the van for the former Holiday Lodge in Fremont.
George was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
George was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia in February of 2012, a son Richard in March of 2002, and a grandson Bradley in January of 2012, and by a brother and a sister.
Survivors: son - Brian and wife Donna Bertram of Fremont 3 daughters Diana and husband Jeff Brown of North Bend Eileen 'Sherry' and husband Jack Tant of Cedar Bluffs Donna and husband Scott Zieberlein of Savannah, Georgia 12 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren 2 sisters Janet and husband Bob Mortimore of Cleo, Iowa Linda Bell of Nebraska City
The funeral service will be held in the Salem Lutheran Church, Fremont, at 2:30 PM Friday (June 28th) with the Rev. Michael Thomas. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Thursday from 2 to 8 PM with the family present from 6 to 8 PM.
