Henrietta "Etta" B. McDuffee

August 20, 1917 - October 3, 2013

Henrietta (Etta) Mayhew McDuffee was born in Stromsburg, Nebraska. As an infant, she moved with the family to Ovid and later, Holyoke, Colorado. At the age of eight, she and family members moved to Schuyler, Nebraska.

She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1935 and then attended Midland College in Fremont. She taught school in Rural Colfax County, District 19, District 25 and then later in the Octavia Public School System.

While in Schuyler, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She then moved back to Fremont where she was employed by Stephens National Bank (later First National Bank).

After her husband's return from Service in 1946, they made their home in Fremont and raised their family there.

She was employed by Schweser's Department Store, in the business office, in excess of 20 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, was active in the Ruth Circle, and Salem Church Women, serving as Treasurer and in various offices and committees. She was an active participant of the Heart Fund Campaign and was a member of the Fremont Area Medical Center Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and three brothers, Harold, Delbert and Ernest Mayhew.

Survivors include her daughter Janice Woodall (Jewel) of Garden City, Kansas, her son Duane (Judy) of Sparks, Nevada, her son Allan (Virginia) of Phoenix, Arizona, her sister-in-law, Jean Mayhew of Loveland, Colorado and her sister-in-law Marge McDuffee of Fremont, Nebraska. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandsons.

Funeral to be held Wednesday, October 9,10:00 a.m.at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 8 from 3:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
