Virginia Helen Motley

February 10, 1920 - December 10, 2013

Virginia Motley, age 93, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington,
died early Tuesday morning (Dec. 10th) in Nye Legacy.

Virginia was born to John and Freida (Marsh) Livermore on February 10, 1920 in Willard, Colorado. She grew up on the farm near Willard, and graduated from Graylin Heights High School in Sterling, Colorado in 1936.

She came to Nebraska and lived on the Marsh farm east of Fremont. She graduated from the Capitol Beauty School in Omaha, then worked in Fremont at the Permanent Wave Beauty Shop.

On November 23, 1939, Virginia was married to Ralph Motley in Blue Earth, Minnesota. They lived on the Leonard Nelson farm east of Fremont, then moved to an Art Gifford Farm south of Arlington, and then to an Echtenkamp farm north of Arlington. The couple moved into Arlington in 1950. She worked for several years during the holiday season for the Sperling Turkey Farm at Arlington. Virginia and Ralph started the Dairy Sweet Shop, still located on highway 30 in Arlington in 1957, and operated that until selling in 1965. Virginia had also been the bookkeeper for the Phillips Oil Co. in Arlington for 9 years.

Virginia was a member of the Arlington Community Church. She volunteered with the blood mobile in Arlington. She was very active in the Arlington Over 60 Center, where she and Ralph and Howard Johnson enjoyed playing cards, especially 5 point pitch. Her husband Ralph, died in September of 1990. Later, Virginia and Howard Johnson became good friends and enjoyed doing many things together until his death.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, a great grandson Eric Lang, 2 brothers, Delbert and K.C. Livermore.

The funeral service will be 1 PM Friday (Dec. 13, 2013) in the Arlington Community Church with the Rev. John Hogue. The committal will follow in the Arlington Cemetery. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont will be on Thursday (Dec. 12th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church and the Over 60 Center in Arlington.
