Allen H. Hoegermeyer
March 19, 1920 - March 28, 2014
Allen Herman Hoegermeyer, age 94, or rural Hooper, Nebraska, died Friday night (March 28, 2014) in the Fremont Area Medical Center.
He was born March 19, 1920 on the farm in rural Hooper (Washington County) to Herman and Adaline (Pawling) Hoegermeyer. He was baptized at home on the day of his birth. He grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Hooper High School in 1937.
He lived and farmed all his working years on the same farm where he was born. He retired in 1985, but remained living on that farm with his sister, Audrey Hoegermeyer.
From January of 1942 to September of 1945, Allen served in the United States Army. He was with the Medical Detachment, 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He served in the Pacific Theater (New Guinea, where he was wounded, the Southern Philippines, and Luzon). Among his decorations and citations are: Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Purple Heart, Medical Badge, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. At the time of his discharge, he was a Technician Fourth Grade.
Allen was an active member of West Point's Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he has served on many of the church committee's and in many of the church's offices.
He is survived by his sister, Audrey Hoegermeyer of Hooper, and other relatives.
The funeral service will be 1:30 PM Wednesday (April 2, 2014) in West Point at the Redeemer Lutheran Church (641 West Grant St.) with the Rev. Daniel Garber. There will be a coffee following the service, and then the committal will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery (east of Winslow) with Military Honors by VFW Post 10535 and American Legion Post 18, both of Hooper. Visitation at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel will be on Tuesday from 3 to 8 PM, with the family present from 6 to 8 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
