Melvin L. Haynes

Melvin L. Haynes, age 89, of Fremont;
died Wednesday (May 14, 2014)
in the Golden Living Center in Columbus, Nebraska.

Melvin was born on February 3, 1925 in Page, Nebraska to Roy and Winifred 'Winnie' (Wood) Haynes. He grew up there and graduated from high school in Page. He attended a business school in Omaha, and worked briefly in the Pentagon.

On June 5, 1948, Melvin was married to Audrey Reynolds in Fairbury, Nebraska. The couple lived in Omaha 8 years, Columbus 5 years, then settled in Fremont. Audrey had been a nurse. She was an organist in several area churches and played for many funerals and weddings. Melvin and Audrey made many trips to South Padre Island in Texas and enjoyed walking the beach, picking up sea shells. Melvin liked to go to the 'Nut House' in Texas and bring back various kinds of nuts. He will be remember for his almond bark dipped pretzels and nuts, which he enjoyed giving away.

During most of his working years, Melvin was the credit manager for Robinson Seed Company in Waterloo.

He was a 50 year member of The Presbyterian Church and volunteer with the Low Income Ministry of Fremont

Melvin's wife Audrey, died of Alzheimer's in November of 2004, after 56 years of marriage. Melvin was then blessed to share the past 6 years with Nadine Ristau, and he enjoyed time with her family. Other survivors include:

Nancy and husband Gene Depue of Columbus
son Gary and wife Jean Haynes of Garland, Texas
5 grandchildren Cody Pherigo, Kevin and wife Dani Depue, Eric and wife Jillian Depue, Todd Depue, and
Emily Haynes
2 great grandchildren- Brinnly and Macy Depue
brother Elwin Haynes of Seward
2 sisters Melissa and husband Dick Nealy of Lincoln
Mildred McCoy of Durango, Colorado

The Memorial Service is 10 AM Saturday at The Presbyterian Church. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to The Low Income Ministry of Fremont. Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, is assisting the family with arrangements.
