Robert D. Karr

Robert D. Karr, age 46, Staff Sergeant, United States Army, formerly of Fremont, died in Texas on October 23, 2013.
He was born May 22, 1967 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. His parents were Rolland and Kay (Dvorak) Karr. Robert grew up in Fremont and attended Fremont High School. Later, he pursued a degree in criminal justice from Central Texas College while serving in the Army.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 2002, serving three years as a Petroleum Supply Specialist prior to becoming a Military Policeman. Other assignments included the 793D Military Police Battalion (Warner Barracks) in Bamberg, Germany, 500th Military Police Detachment in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and NCO Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas. SSG Karr Deployed to Iraq as a Petroleum Specialist with the 793D Military Police Battalion from December of 2004 to November of 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan as an Operations NCO, then in the 978th Military Police Company from February of 2012 to October 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. At the time of his death, SSG Karr was assigned to the 72nd Military Police Detachment, 93D Military Police Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal; Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Unit Citation; Army Superior Unit Award; Army Good Conduct Medal with three Bronze knots; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral two; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon with numeral three; NATO Medal; and Driver's Badge.
He was preceded in death by his father Rolland Karr, grandparents Eugene and Elsie Karr who were Fremont residents, and Frank and Kathrine Dvorak who resided in Atkinson.
Survivors: mother Kay and her husband Melvin Meier of Fremont son Zander Karr of El Paso, Texas step-daughter Loryn of El Paso, Texas sister Susan (Mark) Crossthwaite of Wasilla, Alaska
A memorial service will be held in Fremont at 2 PM, Saturday (Aug. 9th) at the First United Methodist Church. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is assisting the family.
