Died Tuesday June 2, 2015 at the Scribner Good Samaritan Center.
Elaine was born January 18, 1922 in Oakland, NE. to Fred and Louise (Hansen) Christensen. She was raised in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School in 1940. She attended Midland College, then finished her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1945. She moved to South Dakota for a year, then to Blair where she worked for 5 ½ years in the Washington County Extension office. On June 22, 1951 she married E.J. 'Junior' Appleby. They lived in Scribner and she became a farm wife and mother. She was a 4-H leader for 22 years. She was a member of 2 extension clubs, and was active in her churches. She was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and was a big husker fan.

Elaine was preceded in death by her son David Allen Appleby, grandson, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
The funeral will be 10:30am Monday at the United Church of Christ in Scribner. Pastor Larry Jirsak will officiate. Burial will follow in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Scribner Rescue Squad. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm with the family receiving friends from 2pm to 4pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service at the church.
