Leonard was born in Weston, Nebraska to Emil and Helen (Krondak) on Nov 5, 1927. He graduated from Scribner High School in 1944. He married his wife of 67 years, Helen Dau, on June 10, 1947.
Leonard enjoyed his family, friends and interacting with people in the community. Leonard farmed near Ames, Nebraska in 1947 until moving the family to Scribner in 1981. Leonard's life was filled with many experiences. He drove cross country for North American Van Lines. As sanitation supervisor, he was one of the first employees in 1968 at the IBP facility south of West Point. He retired from IBP in 1990. He had also been active several years preparing the fairgrounds for the Dodge County Fair and served as sexton for the Scribner Cemetery for the past 27 years. Leonard also assisted with funerals for Ludvigsen's Scribner Chapel. Leonard was also a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: sons, Ronald (Nancy), their children, Patrick (Maren), Kelsey, Jill and Ann; James (friend, Jeaneen Kindschuh) and son, James Jr.; Daniel (Tracie), and children Jonathan, Andrea, Stefanie and Joseph; Thomas (Janet), and children, Ryan (Brittani) and Jaki; daughters, Anne Jung (Dan) and children, Jeffrey, Jeannette, and Kathryn; and Caroline (Scott) "Carrie" Crawford and children, Tristan, Austin, Damon, Aiden and Ethan; great-grandchildren, Theadosha and Jayme (James Jr.), Landon and Natalyn (Kathryn), Madeline, Parker, Beckett, and Emmett (Andrea), Hayli (Ryan), Brett (Patrick), Delen(Jeannette) and sister, Diana (Alvin) Dinslage, and Brother-in-law Raymond Fauss.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Helen, wife Helen Zahourek, son, Timothy (1986) and a great-grandson, Collin.
The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. The Rev. Damien Wee will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday with a wake service at 7 p.m., all at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. Private burial will be at a later date in the Scribner Cemetery.
Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
