Elva was born July 14, 1924 in Washington County to George and Ella 'Brandert' Hartung. The Lord received her into His Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on July 27, 1924 by the Rev. J.G. Lang at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also confirmed in the Christian faith at Immanuel by the Rev. Ernest Eckhardt on May 1, 1938.
She was raised on the family farm just north of Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow. After graduating from Hooper High School, Elva attended Midland College then taught at Hartung School and Wolf School, Bell Center, and District #64. On June 30, 1946, Elva married Herold Krohn at Immanuel Lutheran Church. After their marriage, they farmed for a short time in Washington County before moving to a farm in Burt County where they continuined to farm. After Herold died, Elva continued to live on the farm before moving to Nye Square,Fremont, NE in 2012.
Elva was a lifelong and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Lydia Circle. She was also an assistant 4-H leader of the Flying Needles 4-H Club and member of the Birthday Club in the Craig/Alder Grove area. She loved to play cards and was a member of a card club in Uehling and continued playing cards at Nye Square several times a week. She and Herold loved to bowl and that was an activity she did for many years. Elva also loved to do needlepoint, garden, bake pies and mostly loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Elva was preceded in death by her husband Herold on May 1st of 2002, infant son and 3 brothers Kermit, Wallace and Stanley Hartung.
The funeral service will be 10:30 Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow. The Rev. Timothy Gierke will officiate. Burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Family Services or Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 7:30pm.

She had a great contagious laugh that when you were with her you couldn’t help but laugh right along with her! Great, great memories of walking the bean fields as a kid!! ! Such a JOY to know her.
