Carol was born to George and Grace (Gillespie) Gordon on the farm near Essex, Iowa on January 5, 1903 (the same year the Wright Brothers made their first flight). She graduated from high school in Shenandoah, Iowa.

She was married to Merle A. Johnson in Shenandoah on September 26, 1926, and they made their home in Omaha where Merle worked for Brodkey's Jewelry. In 1941, they came to Fremont and Merle opened a Brodkey's Jewelry store here. Carol began working in the store part time after her two sons were grown. Following Merle's death in January of 1976, Carol began working part time for Anderson Jewelry in downtown Fremont.

Carol and Merle had been members of a couples garden club. Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church and it's Hannah Circle. And she was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors: 2 daughters-in-law - Shirley A. Johnson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
and her 2 children; Nancy and husband Paul McEnanly of Providence, R.I.
Keith and wife Monique Johnson of Rockport, Ill.
and their 3 daughters, Kelsey, Kiernan, and Keely
Caralee Johnson of Fremont
and her 2 children: Brent and wife Michelle Johnson of Longmont, Colorado
Brenda and husband Terry Nelson of Fremont
and their 2 sons, Jeremy and Kyle

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Merle in January of 1976, by her son David Johnson in December of 2008, and by her son G. Dean Johnson in November of 2009. A brother, Claire Gordon, also preceded her.

The funeral service will be held in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, Saturday morning (July 2nd) at 10 AM with the Rev. Gundar Lambert. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or to the donor's choice.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be today (Friday - July 1st) from 2 to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
