Ellen Louise Haubensak, age 79, of Omaha formerly of Fremont
Died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Newport House in Omaha.

Ellen Louise Haubensak was born on November 24, 1944 in Fremont, NE. She had a brother who was 7 years older. Ellen was baptized as an infant at Sinai Lutheran Church. She lost her hearing due to a very high fever when she was only a toddler, just beginning to talk. She entered the NE School for the Deaf in Omaha where she lived from the time she was 4(almost 5)until she graduated from high school. Her parents drove from Fremont to Omaha every Friday to bring her home for the weekend - and would return her to school early on Monday morning.

Ellen was a happy child who learned easily and enjoyed every new experience. She knew Jesus as a constant companion all her life. She was confirmed in her faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the Deaf in her early teens. There were over 30 deaf teens in her confirmation class.

Shortly after graduating from high school she began working as a key punch operator at the new Western Electric Plant in Millard, NE. She drove or rode in a carpool from Fremont to her job for over 30 years. While working and in retirement she was active in the deaf community. When she purchased a conversion van, she transported her friends to camps and conventions for the deaf across the USA. On one of those trips she found herself near Chicago when her youngest great nephew, Henry Pedersen was born in 2011. She drove that van into downtown Chicago in rush hour to meet him before he left the hospital to go home.

Ellen doted on all the children in our family. She loved to hold, cuddle and comfort them as baby's. Often a fussy baby could only be comforted by a walk outside in Ellen's loving arms. She was not alarmed or upset by ''crying'' sounds.
Her tender love was also extended toward animals. All dogs and kitties were given gentle care.

Another attribute of Ellen was her keen sense of humor….and her love to laugh. She took delight and found glee in so much in life. Once when a niece couldn't locate her cell phone Ellen began laughing until she nearly cried because the phone had fallen into Ellen's wheelchair and Ellen could feel the vibration!!!!

Most everyone who got to know Ellen had received a pamphlet or tract from her telling them about Jesus. She wanted everyone to know her best friend and be saved for eternity. Ellen was cherished by her family and her many friends.
Being deaf did not conceal her care for others. Recently when the fire alarm went off (mistakenly), she along with several other residents were put together in a safe place. Even though they were in wheelchairs, they were found holding hands together until the ''all clear''

On the afternoon of July 11, 2024 Ellen rested in her recliner….and took a nap. When caregivers came to take her to the dining room for supper, she had peacefully slipped away to her heavenly home.

Preceding her in death were her amazing parents Hugo and Laverne Haubensak, her dear brother Richard, a very special aunt and uncle Sammy and Bob Snow, and her niece and loving caregiver Karen Haubensak.

Those left to mourn….but also celebrate her new life include nieces Heidi Kantor(Ken) and Leah Pedersen(Dan), nephew James Haubensak(Carrie) special cousin Susan McKenzie(Mark), eight great nieces and nephews, and three great great nieces and nephew, also many dear cousins and loyal friends, and me, her sister in law Kathie.

To Ellen:
''Well done, good and faithful servant - enter into the Joy of your Lord'' Matt 25:21 Heaven is rejoicing because you are Home.

My most fond memories of Ellen were on our trip to the Grand Tetons and the Super 8 movies/film clips that her, Hugo and Uncle Bob Snow would make. We love you Ellen, rest in God's Peace.
