Ralph was born March 9, 1919 on the farm near Jackson, Nebraska. His parents were Henry and Amanda (Mogensen) Knudsen. Ralph grew up in the Jackson /Waterbury area, helping on the farm. He was a medic in the United States Army, serving from April 1943 to March of 1946.

On August 15, 1944, Ralph was married to Ruth Nelson in Rockford, Illinois. Following his military service, they lived in Dakota City and Ralph went to work for Northern Natural Gas Co. in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
He was transferred to Oakland, Nebraska in 1964, and then moved to Fremont in 1972. He retired from the gas company after 36 years of employment there.

Ralph was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. In Dakota City, he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Rescue Squad. Ralph was a rock hound and made jewelry.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday (March 29th) in Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Thomas and Rev. Delvin Hutton officiating. The committal will be in Sioux City, Iowa in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont will be today (Monday-March 28) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM. Visitation will continue at the church Tuesday morning for an hour before the service.
