Betty J. Ruether age 89, of Scribner
died Thursday, February 20, 2025 at CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha.

Betty was born January 10, 1936 to Miles and Ella (Spath) Moyer in Scribner. She graduated from Scribner High School in 1953 as Salutatorian of her class. She earned her teacher's certificate from Wayne State College, Wayne NE. She then taught at rural schools near Oakland and south of Hooper.

On June 10, 1956 Betty married Leonard Ruether at United Lutheran Church in Scribner, where she was a lifetime member. While raising her children, she worked as church secretary. Later, she was a teacher's aide and secretary at Hooper Elementary School. She retired from there in 2003 after 25 years of service. She then kept busy working part time at Lee's Market and the Scribner Pharmacy for a few more years.

Betty was an expert seamstress and sewed many clothes for herself, her children, and even her grandchildren. She was legendary at crocheting. She won many Blue Ribbons at the Dodge County Fair and kept her family supplied with a variety of her creative handy work. Her grandkids said she made the best brownies.

Betty is survived by her children; Jolene (Mike Schott) Stockamp of Fremont, Anita (Gail) Ludwig of Wisner, Donley (Donna) Ruether of Fremont, and Julie (DJ) Kayl of Parker CO. Grandchildren; Suzanne (Jimmy) Little of Council Bluffs IA, Katie Mullally of North Bend, Tim Stockamp of Scribner, Amy (James) Brandt of Howells, Kristie (Andy) Rudnick of Casa Grande AZ, Kathy (John) Iles of Scottsbluff, and Amanda (Jacob) Klein of Omaha. Great grandchildren; Zach, Natalee, & Whitney Mullally, Colten & Jasyn Brandt, Karly & Lily Little, and Ames Rudnick. Brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; Glen Houts of North Sioux City SD, Alan Thomsen of Fremont, and Glen (Vickie) Ruether of Hooper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ruether. Sisters; Arlene (Jim) Parr, Darlene (Harold) Bossow, Faye (Floyd) Haney, and Sharon Houts. Brothers; Galen (Mary) Moyer and Gerald (Marie ''Skeets'') Moyer. Sister-in-law, Lorene Thomsen and infant grandson, Matthew Ruether.

The visitation will be Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Ludvigsen's Scribner Chapel from 3pm to 7pm. The family will be present from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral will be 10am, Thursday, February 27, 2025 at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery north of Hooper. Memorials are suggested to United Lutheran Church, Rebuilding Together, and Scribner Fire & Rescue.
