passed away May 30, 2025, in Fremont Ne.
Curtis was born to Emil H Zimmerman and Mabel (Brouhard) Zimmerman March 30, 1936, in Axtel, NE. Curt graduated from Kearney High School in 1953. After high school Curt joined the U.S. Navy and devoted his entire career serving our Country in the U S Navy. On April 1, 1968, Curtis married the love of his life Jo Ann (Floyd) Owens. Curt and Jo Ann traveled the world as he continued his service in the Navy. They made their home of 50 years in San Diego Ca.
He was proud to be a Chief Sonar Technician Operations Dept Leading Petty Officer aboard U S Destroyers and Submarines and Instructor for state-of-the-art submarine sonar systems. After his Navy enlistment he worked for Cubic Corporation (Defense Systems Logistics Dept) Training Writer for the following manuals Vehicle Mounted Road Mine Detector System (US Army); Survival Avionics Subsystem (USAF); Tracking Instrumentation Subsystem of ACMR/I (Royal Iranian Air Force). Training Specialist Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector System (US Army) 14H4A Helicopter ASW Tactical Trainer, JAX and NI. After his retirement form Cubic, he worked for Grundy Environmental Systems where he Develop test, operating and maintenance procedures for use in the laboratory and for inclusion in the product manuals. Evaluate, repair and calibrate analog and microprocessor based oceanographic equipment and Technical Consultant. He returned to Cubic Corporation and wrote, proofed and taught training manuals on mass transit system turnstiles.
Curt was much loved and a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Curt was preceded in Death by his wife Jo Ann, sisters June Baxter, Donna Zimmerman, stepson James T Owens, Brother-in-laws Leslie Baxter Jr, Robert Eggers, sister-in-law Marilyn (Tess) Zimmerman and niece Kimberly Smith.
Curt is survived by sister Gwen Eggers, brother Clarence Zimmerman. Stepdaughter Elizabeth (Steve) Reese, stepdaughter in law Patsy Owens, grandchildren Melonie (Geoff) Elmore, Julie (Wesley) Taylor, Jamie (Anita) Owens, nieces and nephews and Donald (Linda) Baxter, David (Laurie) Baxter, Debbie (Mike) Hanen, Susan (Robert) Leduc, Rebecca Simmons Ausich, Ronald (Millicent) Eggers, Jacqueline Zimmerman and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 3pm to 5pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Graveside services will be at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is assisting with local arrangements.

I'm glad he was able to spend time with Gwen, Clarence and other family members in his final years. I know his family will miss him dearly.
