Donald was born May 4, 1926 in rural Scribner to Carl and Clara 'White' Poppe. He was baptized on May 17, 1927 and confirmed August 6, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cuming County Line by Rev. Ewald Wendt. He attended District #36 School through the eighth grade.

On June 1, 1947 he married Valenda Tonjes at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper. He served on the District #35 School Board and served on the church council at St. Paul's. He farmed his entire life until retiring into Scribner in 1992. After retiring, Donald enjoyed fishing and working with stained glass.

Daughter - Janice Smeal of Scribner
Son - Wayne Poppe of Chattanooga, TN.

Grandchildren - Amanda and husband Preston Vacha of Fremont
and their children Aiden and Easton
Andrea and husband Bret Ekberg of Holdrege
Chris, Craig and Nick Poppe all of Tennessee
Sisters - Darlene Stollberg of Scribner
Alice Prall of Arizona
Brothers - Leonard Poppe of Scribner
LeRoy Poppe of Scribner

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Valenda in 2008, parents, a brother Clarence, and a brother in infancy.

The funeral will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 4 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper. The Rev. Judy Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from
3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 3pm to 5pm at the Scribner Funeral Chapel.
