Louise Tuchenhagen, 99, of Fort Collins, Colorado (formerly of Scribner, Nebraska) died July 14, 2010, at the Sterling House where she was a resident since 2000.
Louise was born January 19, 1911, to John N. and Margareta Paper in Missouri Valley, Iowa where she was raised being baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1929. Louise married Albert Tuchenhagen September 7, 1931, and spent the next 69 years living in Scribner, Nebraska. Albert and Louise owned and operated Tuchenhagen Hardware in Scribner until they retired in 1973 after 44 years in business.
Louise was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner where she was the organist for over 50 years as well as a member of the altar guild and Ladies' Aid. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Family Services Auxiliary, and Seward Concordia Guild, often serving in leadership roles. Louise was a member of the Scribner Women's Club and served many years on the Board of the Scribner Museum.
Faith and family were important to Louise as demonstrated by her steadfast commitment to them. Louise loved music and reading throughout her life. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting, creating many blankets and afghans that were enjoyed by friends and family. Along with Albert, Louise was a prolific gardener keeping a yard filled with many different flowers, fruits and vegetables.
During Louise's time at the Sterling House she enjoyed the many activities and the people. The family has appreciated the caring and friendly environment the Sterling House and its entire staff provided to Louise, enriching her final years.
Louise was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was always very thoughtful, caring and gracious to everyone around her, especially those new to the community. She was a witness and inspiration to all and will be greatly missed.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Manis) Edwards of Wichita, KS and Betty Heermann of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Edwards of Maple Valley, WA., Ruth (Ron) Adams of Hickman, NE, Sara (Gerald) Buchleiter of Fort Collins, CO, Philip (Mae) Heermann of Albuquerque, NM, and Laura (Patrick) Langford of Sandy, UT; and 11 great-grandchildren, Evie and Amy Edwards, Tim, David, Alex and Janelle Adams, Rachel and Jonathan Buchleiter, and Austin, Nathan and Laura Heermann. She is also survived by her friend and sister-in-law, Hulda Meyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. 1. Becky Stehl souders
I remember quite clearly that Louise was a generous and patient mentor when I expressed an interest in playing the organ at St. Peter's. I think the entire congregation breathed with relief when Louise returned to the keyboard after any absence, short or long. My condolences to you all.
  2. Stan & Ione Popken
We extend our sympathy in the loss of your mom. How blessed she was with many years! Memory of her goes back a long time, back to days probably before high school when she was a friendly and helpful person in Tuchenhagen Hardware. Am just catching up with newspapers. Were gone a week to Texas (Grand daughter's wedding). It was a pleasure to read of your families. Thinking of you. Stan & Ione
