The family will be present from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour, Odyssey Hospice, and Renal Cell Cancer Research Foundation.

Verda was born January 21, 1945 to John and Meta (Hokamp) Breithaupt in Fremont. She grew up in Fremont and attended Trinity Lutheran School. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1963. She received a bachelor's degree from Concordia College in Seward in 1967. After graduation, she worked as a teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan. She then served as an elementary school teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School near Hooper.

She married Vernon Brandert on April 6, 1969 at Fremont. They lived in Hooper and farmed with his parents until they moved to the family farm southeast of Hooper in 1972. They continued to farm and operate a Dekalb seed business there at the time of her death.

Verda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hooper, the church's Lydia Circle and former Couples Club. She made banners and assisted with the videotape ministry over the years. She was a past member of the Logan View Booster Club. She enjoyed bowling, Husker volleyball, playing cards with friends in card club, gardening and being involved in her children's activities. Even though she grew up in town, she loved the farm.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Melanie Brandert of Mitchell, S.D., Marcia (and husband Sean) Holloway of Houston, Texas, one son, Mike Brandert of Fremont, her mother Meta Breithaupt of Fremont, two brothers, Gordon (and wife Gloria) Breithaupt of Fremont, and Duane Breithaupt of Lincoln, one sister-in-law, Jean (and husband Kenneth) Tonjes of Hooper, two uncles, Albert Hokamp of Fremont, and Elvin Beerman of Fremont, two aunts, Norma (and husband Elmer) Katt of Herman, and Esther Hokamp of Weldon Spring, MO, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father John Breithaupt in 1961, her grandparents, her parents-in-law, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
