LaVerna was born July 11, 1911 on the family farm south of Scribner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church south of Scribner. She was raised on the family farm and attended District 44 grade school. LaVerna graduated from Scribner High School in 1928. After high school she received her teaching certificate and taught for 2 years at District 44 school and then for 2 years at District 27 school. She was married on April 29, 1936 to Ernest 'Sam' Klahn. He died in December of 1951. Later LaVerna was married to Bernard Havekost of Hooper, his children were, son John Havekost (now deceased), Sandra Emry, Judy Larsen, Shirley Bauer and Belva Licht. They moved into Hooper in 1960. Bernard Havekost died in 1970. She continued to live in Hooper after his death.

LaVerna was active in her church, card clubs and loved to garden and collect recipes. She enjoyed giving raisin bread to her family at Christmas time. During the last years she was a resident of the Elkhorn Valley Villa in Scribner, the Hooper Care Center and the last 3 years with her daughter and son-in-law in Scribner. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.

Cheri and husband Everett, Burger of Columbus
John and wife Kim, Probasco of Scribner
Great grandchildren - Jason Probasco, Nate and wife Heidi Probasco
Travis, Whitney and Madison Burger

LaVerna was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, 1 Son Bernard Klahn in 1962, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The funeral will be 10:30am Tuesday (December 30), at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elkhorn Valley Villa and the Hooper Care Center. Visitation will be on Monday from 3pm to 8pm with family receiving friends from 7pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel.
