Clayton was born August 16, 1911 in Nickerson to Frank and Hellena 'Hilbers' Liston. He grew up in Nickerson and attended Nickerson schools. He was confirmed on April 1, 1928 at Grace Lutheran Church. In Clayton's early years he worked as a farmer, and farmed for others as well including his brother Frank, he also worked at the Scribner Air Base. Clayton and Ruth Meier were married in Hooper on June 5, 1940. The couple moved to the Hooper area in 1947 were they farmed until retiring into Hooper. Clayton loved to camp and fish and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.

Clayton was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on September 30, 1984; son Jimmy, a grandson, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

The funeral will be Saturday December 22, 10:00am at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Friday (Dec. 21) from 3pm until 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue 1 hour before service at the church.
