I served in the armed forces.
John was born on September 1, 1929 in Gregory, South Dakota to Joseph and Frances (Chvala) Belak. He lived most of his childhood years in that area. Then at the age of 17, John joined the United States Army, with part of his duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

Following his military duty, he worked briefly in his brother's café in Verdigre, Nebraska. He moved to Fremont for employment with Hormel's, retiring in 1984 after 31 years there. During his retirement years, he worked for several area businesses.

John was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont. He was also a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200, and VFW Post 854.

On March 31, 1954, John was married in Verdigre to Janice Genser.

John was preceded in death by a grandson, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

The funeral service will be 11 AM Monday (April 8, 2013) at the Church of the Nazarene (Military St. & Luther Road) with the Rev. Tom Shaw. Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 & VFW Post 854 will be rendered at the church.

Memorials will be directed by the family. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Sunday from 3 PM to 7 PM.

    So sorry for the loss of you Father. John was a great man to all that know him. I'm glad I had the chance to work with him at Comfort Inn. We had some good times their! He would always talk to us, then he would say "Better go be the BOSS comes checking on all of us" then he would run down the hallway! He will be missed dearly!!! Keeping you and your Family in my prayers!
