Charleen F. Sager, age 95, of Hooper
Died Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at her daughter's home in Omaha.

Charleen was born to Gertrude and Winfreth (Foxy) Schurman on August 26, 1928. With her sister Arlette, they lived on a farm in the Nickerson area. She began school at Timpe School, and then in fourth grade she attended Immanuel School and rode her horse four miles every day to school. She attended Fontanelle school for ninth and tenth grades, and then completed her high school diploma in 1945 at Concordia in Seward where she enjoyed singing in the acappella choir and playing in the band. She attended Midland College (now Midland University) part time while working at Hammond-Stevens Printing Company as a fill-in artist. She later worked at Marson's Women's Clothing store.

Roller skating was a favorite recreation, and Charleen met Dale Sager at the roller rink. Charleen and Dale married on February 27, 1949 in Fremont. They farmed east of Winslow until 1957 when they moved to Hooper and began operating the Sager Hardware Store. Later, Charleen worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Hooper Elementary School, and then in 1973, she went to Victors Farm Equipment to work as a bookkeeper until she retired.

Charleen and Dale loved nature and took yearly vacations to Wyoming and Montana, particularly Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. She was an avid fan, particularly Kansas City Royals baseball, University of Nebraska athletics, and any activity her grandchildren were participating in. She loved baking, painting, gardening, and spending time with her family.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hooper where she sang in the choir. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Lutheran Brotherhood. She had served as a board member of the Senior Center of Hooper and Hooper Library.

Charleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, in-laws Eugene Eckhardt, Floyd and Grace Sager, and Dorlene (Sager) Luther, and niece Joy Luther.

We are "with" you all in thought and prayer during this season of loss and grief. May God be a tangible Presence with you to carry, maintain, and sustain you all in this time. Lots of love from us, John, Judy, Ben, and Sam Petering "down under. "
  2. Martin Eckhardt
Kay/Bob, Ron/Nancy - I’m so sorry to hear of Charleen’s passing and pray for your comfort in knowing that Charleen is now free from her physical ailments and with our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Revelations 21:4 – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. As a child in our visits to the farm and to Hooper, Aunt Charleen was always so happy and made sure we had a good time. She was a very special woman.
