June was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana, the first of two daughters for Bill and Annabelle Brock. She loved to be active outdoors and enjoyed riding her bicycle and playing many sports. She was an accomplished pianist and choir accompanist. She earned her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Great Falls in 1947 and began teaching in Power, Montana. On December 29, 1947, she married Bill Lehman from Highwood, Montana. They moved to Bozeman, Montana, where she taught English at Montana State University. She long remembered stories written by her students, many of whom were returning World War II veterans. Bill's career with Hormel sent them to Austin, Minnesota, then Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1955 they moved to Jefferson, Iowa, where they settled for 15 years. While there, June was in high demand as a substitute teacher for first through twelfth grades. She was active in a variety of groups and was selected as a keyboardist for the community's new carillon bell tower. She was also a church organist. In 1970, they moved to Fremont, Nebraska, then to Atlantic, Iowa, Washington, Kansas, and back to Fremont in 1984. They retired shortly after and made Fremont their home. June enjoyed her years of YMCA exercise classes and daily morning walks around town. She also enjoyed many travel tours around the country and to Ireland with her friends.
June was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband, and sister Betty. Those left to carry on are her three children: Brock (Joanne) and Jill of Fremont, and Bruce of Smith Center, Kansas; five grandsons: Brock (Leah), Brennan (Nikki), Bryce (Leanne), Justin (Dani), and Travis (Erica); and eleven great grandchildren (so far).
Known as a wise, gentle, and gracious lady to all who knew her, June will be lovingly remembered for her uplifting smile, listening ear, unwavering faith, and love of family.
