Karolyn was born to Carl and Meta (Giesselmann) Sommers on September 22, 1934 in Fremont. She had attended Trinity Lutheran School, and graduated from Fremont High School.

On May 14, 1955, Karolyn was married to Kenneth E. Cernik. They met when both were employed at Hormel's. Later she was employed by Pendleton Woolen Mills in Fremont. Following her husband's retirement, they were the caretakers at the Fremont Anglers for several years.

Karolyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had been baptized, confirmed, and married. She loved being in the outdoors. And baking cookies with her great granddaughter, brought her much joy.

Terri/Pam, I am very sorry to hear of your loss...your mom and dad were so friendly and fun to talk with. Randy and Terry, Albert and Pam Lee and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. We spent many hours with your mom at the Anglers, and will always remember her hard work and dedication to the club and all of its members. Her strength of character made her a person that we will always admire, and we enjoyed being able to speak with her and knowing that you were hearing it as it really was, no mixed messages, simple truth. May God strengthen and keep you during this period. Ronnie and Lee Callahan

Pam and Terri & families - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. She was one of the neatest ladies I ever had the pleasure to know. She always made me feel like part of the family and was always so very easy to talk to about anything. She will be missed by many. I wish I had known she was at Nye Legacy...I would have gone to see her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. God Bless you all. Rest in Peace, Aunt Karolyn. Albert, Pam and to the rest of Karolyn's family. I worked with her for a short time at Schweser's. But most of all being you parents neighbors, Oh my gosh we couldn't ask for better neighbors! We had taken a vacation with our 2 boys and the day we got home she had supper prepared for us. They would share their supper with us many time. We also always had to share my pinwheels when I made them, she also many times shared breakfast with our dog "Rags" it was always toast but Rags loved it! Our family will never forget their bulldog 'Tuffy'! She and your dad were an amazing couple! Her many memories will live on. She surely will be missed. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless Ted and Colleen Osterloh
