I enjoyed Gary's friendship and his sense of humor. He was always there to help when needed. An example was when I blacked out while driving down the highway and then couldn't drive for 90 days after that... "Buckwheat" stepped up to the plate and offered to take me to and from work -- that was from Fremont to Blair...every day for three months, rain of shine. A lot of days I could tell he didn't feel particularly feel well but he didn't let that stop him from helping a friend. We had lots of laughs... I particularly remember when we helped him move into his last apartment. I stuck a huge rubber black RAT just inside his kitchen cupboards. He told the story later, of how he opened the cupboard in the middle of the night and fell to his knees when he saw that rat! Gary always loved a practical joke and took it as a challenge to "get even!" One time we came home from a weekend trip to find about 200 plastic forks stuck in the ground in our front yard, in perfect formation. Hmmm, Buckwheat must have stopped by! The last few years I hated to see his health and quality of life go downhill. He deserved better than that. I am thankful that he is no longer hurting though and did not have to endure surgery again. He is resting and at peace now. My sincere condolences to the family of Gary Lynch.
