Delmar Akerlund

Send Flowers Send Flowers
Delmar was born on the family farm near Valley, Nebraska, on July 18, 1922. In January 1946 he married Merle Christensen of Hooper, Nebraska. He remained on the family farm all of his life, cultivating the land that he loved so much. In 1967 he began pioneering the organic farming method. The experience he gained in organic farming provided a wealth of valuable knowledge to agriculture. Over the years articles about his farm appeared in several national magazines, and people from all over the world toured his farm to learn more about organic farming.

He is survived by two daughters; Gail Hemenway of Olathe Kansas, and Dorothy Akerlund of Omaha, Nebraska. His grandchildren are Paul Hemenway of Wichita, Kansas; and Anna Hemenway of Olathe, Kansas.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, January 23, at 3 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2530 Old Highway 8, Fremont, Nebraska.

First and foremost.. I am so sorry for your loss. My sympathy is extented to you and your family. I too was thinking that this may be the last Akerlund. That saddens me. for that is my heritage. I would love to have all your addresses or email addresses. I can remember so vivid your grandma Dot. Did either of you ever attend my grandma Claudines Christmas years ago? I was young but yet think that either Dorothy or Gail attended with Dot a time or two. Again my sincere sympathy to all of you. Blessings.. Joan Behrens (Claudines granddaughter).. Although I hadn't seen Uncle Delmar in many years, my thoughts are with Gail and Dorothy during this difficult time. It is always sad to lose a parent regardless of their age and circumstances and this is truly an end of an era with the passing of the last of the Akerlund trio and their spouses. They will always be in our thoughts and memories.
