Marvin was born on the family farm west of Bancroft, Nebraska on February 13, 1924 to Herman and Emma (Elsasser) Leifert. He was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Walter Homann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft. He later served his church as an elder for many years.

Marvin had attended School District 29, west of Bancroft, riding his pony Brownie, to school each day.

Marvin and Myrdyce Vogel were married on June 17, 1943. This union was blessed with five children Cheryl, Ron, Gary, Bob, and Marlys.

Marvin and Myrdyce farmed all of their life in the Jefferson community north of Lyons, where Marvin was a member of the Jefferson school board for over 20 years. Marvin was active in 4-H as a youth, showing beef cattle, and also was a 4-H leader for his children. He also served his community on the Everett Township Board.

In 1990, Marvin & Myrdyce retired from farming and moved to Fremont. He enjoyed being a member of the Fremont Golden 'K' Kiwanis Club, and helping with their pancake days. He liked to share the topics of the discussions at the Kiwanis meetings. Marvin and Myrdyce were member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Marvin was preceded in death by his son-in-law Ted Karney and his parents.

The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday (Febr. 26th) at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Heuer and Rev. Dr. David Coe. The committal will be in the Bancroft Cemetery, Bancroft, Nebraska. Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, today (Monday Febr. 25th) from 3 to 8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm.
