died Thursday evening (Sept. 26, 2013)
in the Hooper Care Center.
She was born February 18, 1914 in Peoria, Illinois to Harry and Ruby (Nelser) Engle. She grew up in East Peoria and received nurses training in Peoria and further nursing education through Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. She also attended Midland College in Fremont taking night classes.
On June 29, 1935, she was married in Papillion, Nebraska to Elmer Parsons. They lived on the Parsons' farm northwest of Fremont. Elmer died in November of 1962. Later, on September 17, 1966, she was married to Alvin Otteman in the Bethel Church near Hooper. They also lived northwest of Fremont until moving into Hooper in 1991. Alvin has also preceded Edith in death in June of 1998.
Edith was a nurse at the hospital in Fremont for over 40 years. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. She and Alvin had been very active in fund raisers for the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer Parsons and Alvin Otteman, also a young son, 2 brothers and her sister.

The funeral service will be 10:30am Thursday October 3rd, at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. The Rev. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday one hour before
the service at the church.
