I served in the armed forces.
Garlan was born to Charles and Ella 'Luther' Schultz on February 17, 1920 in the Scribner area. The beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 93 years old on January 3, 2014. Garlan, the eldest of 4 children, spent his childhood on a family farm in Scribner with his family. After graduating high school in 1938, he married Dorothy Mae Farnsworth on July 5, 1941, and proceeded to join the service. He and Dorothy moved to Ada, Oklahoma soon to have their first child, Barbara Lynn. Garlan spent 4 years in the service, leaving in 1942 and being honorably discharged. Upon his discharge Garlan, Dorothy and their baby moved to Fremont, where he would live the rest of his life. After moving to Fremont, Garlan soon went to work for the Fremont Department of Utilities as an Industrial Engineer until he retired. During that time he had his son, Thomas Garlan and four years later the youngest daughter Peggy Anne.

Garlan's first wife passed away in 1986. Later on, Garlan would meet Marian Johnson and they married on December 21, 1988. They were blessed to share the next 25 years of his life. Garlan was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200, serving as President and Secretary for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Some of Garlan's hobbies included playing in a card club. He was an avid fisherman which took him on many trips to Minnesota and Canada. He also had a passion for dancing. Garlan traveled to Arizona during the winter months with friends and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the passing of your father Garlan.

It is always sad to read about the death of childhood friends' parents. May knowing that others, like me are thinking of you and want you to know prayers of peace and support are being offered sooth the pain you are feeling.

    To the Schulz children:
I was saddened to read of the passing and end of life of your father Garlan. I have very fond memories of living next door to your family and how supportive you mother and father were while my husband Bill was away during Korean war in helping me.

Your father was a very pleasant and soft-spoken gentleman, who worked hard and provided for you all and the other neighborhood children as they were all growing up.

Please accept my thoughts and prayers.
