Sylvia was born to Joseph and Catherine (Kudron) Spes on November 8, 1933 in Ewing, Nebraska. She spent her childhood in Ewing where she received her education.

On January 12, 1952, Sylvia was married to Carol Frey. Fremont has been their home since their marriage. Sylvia was a stay at home Mom while their daughter and son were growing up. During this time, she was an Avon sales representative. Later, she went to work for the city and was the meter maid for 32 years.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Sylvia was preceded in death by 5 sisters Josephine Kosinski, Monica Martin, Rose Marie Rodgers, Evelyn
Tierney Killingsworth, and Leona Sazma; 2 brothers Ted and Edwin Spes; and 2 infant siblings.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (May 28, 2014) at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Thomas. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Tuesday (May 27th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family present from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church and Dodge County Humane Society.
