Retired Fremont farmer and then Valmont Industries after 17 years. Bernie was an active member of the Fremont Salvation Army Church and a former member of the Fremont Kiwanis Club. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels, made over 500 wooden toys for the Salvation Army Joy Shop and spent many hours as a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army Tree of Lights. He also enjoyed gardening and shared his harvest with family and friends. Known as the "Grandpa of the Neighborhood" he fixed bicycles for kids, and worked as a handyman for his neighbors mowing yards and painting.
Preceded in death by wife of 62 years Doris; son Daniel; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral Service Friday 10:00 a.m. at Fremont Church of the Nazarene. Salvation Army Major David Corliss officiating. Major Marc Johnson will deliver the eulogy. Interment Memorial Cemetery.
