Jerry Carl Bayliff, 75, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on November 14, 1949, Jerry dedicated his life to hard work, family, and the open road. A proud truck driver for his entire career, driving wasn't just a job, it was a way of life and a family tradition. He shared this passion with his children, passing down the values of commitment, determination, and grit that defined his own journey.

On August 7th, 1975, Jerry married the love of his life, Jean Lakey, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, loyalty, and lasting memories. Their bond was unwavering - a true partnership grounded in deep love and mutual respect.

A lifelong fan of Husker football, Jerry rarely missed a game. Whether cheering in the stands or from his favorite chair at home, his love for the Cornhuskers ran deep. Family game days were legendary, especially when paired with the spirited family rivalry between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Oklahoma Sooners. Whether winning or losing, he cheered loudly, laughed often, and never missed a chance to stir the pot in good fun.

Golf was one of Jerry's greatest passions. He loved the game and treasured any chance to spend time at his home course, Elkhorn Valley Golf Club in Hooper, Nebraska. Those lucky enough to join him there know it wasn't just about the game, it was about the connection, the jokes, and the joy.

Jerry will be remembered for his quick wit, heartfelt advice, stubbornness, and the deep love he held for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the roads traveled, and the love that binds his family together.

He is survived by his four children: Jack (Lisa) Lakey, Keith Dixon, Mark (Janet) Bayliff, and Melanie Zurita; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved fiercely and unconditionally. He is also survived by four siblings Sherri Qualls, Denny (Susan) Bayliff, Kathy (Don) Darling, Michael (Kellee) Harms and many near and dear friends whom he considered family, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jean Bayliff; his grandson, Cameren Bayliff; his sister, Sammie; his parents, Marg & Mark Marshall and in-laws, Melvin & Isabell Lakey.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at Milady Coffee (south entrance) 105 E 6th St. Fremont, Ne 68025, on August 16th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to come share memories, raise a glass, and honor a man who lived life on his own terms.

In Jerry's memory, play a round of golf, tell a great story, or toast him with a shot of Fireball - because that's exactly how he would want to be remembered.

Jerry is a man with the BIGGEST heart and so much love! I enjoyed the time we shared together when he would visit or helping me move around the country. We always had good laughs and I’ll hold on to those fond and magical memories we made when we were together. He was always so good to my girls and helped us all in so many ways. Heaven has gained a mighty warrior for an angel because Jerry is a fighter for what he loves and believes in! He lived for his children and grandchildren! I loved hearing the prideful stories he would share about each one of them-some funny, some not so much but lessons learned. He lived to love and loved to live! Now he begins his everlasting life with the Lord God Almighty walking the streets of gold and playing golf to no end because in heaven there’s no need for trucks when you have wings to fly!! Fly high and have fun until we see you again in heaven! I love you more than you know!!—Carole

P.S.—have the popcorn ready when I get there so we can have popcorn wars…lol

My condolences to all of the family. Jerry was a cool guy and I enjoyed teasing him when I'd see him at Mel's. I liked that about Jerry that we could give each other grief and laugh about it. I'll miss seeing you at Mel's, Jerry. Bye for now!
